Lusaka, Zambia – October 26, 2024 – ÌÇÐÄAPP, Zambia (UUZM) recently hosted the groundbreaking Yango Hackathon in collaboration with Yango and Zindi, aimed at showcasing the data science and artificial intelligence skills of students from several Zambian universities. The event took place on the ÌÇÐÄAPP campus and provided a platform for students to explore cutting-edge topics in mobility prediction and data analysis, while competing for cash prizes.

The hackathon focused on mobility prediction—a crucial challenge in today’s rapidly evolving urban environments. Under expert guidance, participants gained valuable insights into data science and artificial intelligence, learning how these technologies can address real-world mobility issues. The event saw enthusiastic participation from ÌÇÐÄAPP, alongside other esteemed institutions, including the University of Lusaka (Unilus) and Cavendish University Zambia.

The top three teams shared a prize pool of USD 1,000, awarded for their innovative solutions and outstanding performance. Our students performed admirably, with ÌÇÐÄAPP securing third place. Jeffrey Mdala, the student representing ÌÇÐÄAPP, was awarded USD 180, while teams from Unilus claimed the first and second places. The event underscored the commitment of ÌÇÐÄAPP to fostering talent and skill development among students in fields of high demand, such as data science and AI.
